Super Mario Forever Editor's Review
With over 200 million games sold, Mario is the best-selling video game franchise of all time. An entire generation grew up playing Super Mario Bros on the SNES, and now Mario Forever replicates the original platforming experience for your PC. Jump, grow and dodge your way to victory across dozens of levels as the famous plumber, though be warned - it’s as addictive as ever. With faithfully reconstructed levels based around updated graphics and sounds, enjoy an authentic-feeling Mario experience or create your own with the Level Editor feature.
For any Mario fans out there, this a decent download. Considering it’s free, there’s a lot of playability on offer, from colourful, faithfully reproduced levels to fun extra features and even a level editor so you can create your own unique Mario experiences. The gameplay might not fully recapture the physics and overall feel of the original, but this is still a decent, addictive platformer. More importantly, the updated graphics and sounds recreate the feel and look of the original, which is what every Mario fan will enjoy the most.
Predictably though, where this game falls down is polish. Running on Windows 7 it crashed repeatedly and only worked when started in compatibility mode. And when it did run, the game was pretty CPU intensive considering it should be relatively light-weight software. Annoyingly, Mario Forever also opens up its publisher’s website at seemingly every opportunity, often tricking the user into clicking an advert. While this can be expected for freeware to some degree, it can prove irritating, especially when you’re playing in full screen.
Pro’s: Updated graphics and sounds, old-school platforming, level editor.
Con’s: Stability issues, lacks truly authentic feel, too many adverts.
Conclusion: Still, despite the rough edges there's a lot to love for the Mario fans out there. Enjoy.
Super Mario Forever Publisher's Description
Mario Forever is really a fantastic Mario remake created with Multimedia Fusion.
Once again you strap on your wrench and hardhat and guide the chubby plumber through many skilfully made levels. The diversity of the levels is very impressive. You will have to get through levels ranging from underwater caverns to levels filled with fiery lava.
